Cantor Jeri Robins

Music has been a part of Jeri’s life for as long as she can remember. She started performing in musical theater with Heights Youth Theatre in Cleveland, Ohio, in second grade and had to wait until her fingers could span an octave to begin studying piano.

Judaism has always played an integral role in her life, including as a BBYO regional officer, NEFTY member, Tel Noar camper and Hillel service leader. As a life member of Hadassah and an active member of Temple Emanuel in Newton, Jeri served in a variety of leadership roles. She has sung with the Zamir Chorale of Boston and synagogue choirs.

Jeri studied Information Systems and Business at Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh and earned an MBA from the Sloan School of Management at MIT. Her business career included work in the packaged goods and technology industries in marketing, finance and strategy roles, as well as 15 years as a retained executive recruiter.

In 2007, she decided to make a career change to pursue a Master’s degree in Jewish Education and Cantorial Ordination at Hebrew College. While in school, she held internships at Temple Israel in Natick, Temple Shalom of Newton and Temple Anshe Amunim in the Berkshires, as well as working with seniors at Brooksby Village, teaching in a variety of settings and tutoring b’nai mitzvah students. After being ordained in 2013, she served Temple Beth Shalom in Peabody as Cantor/Director of Education for two years. In addition to her work as Beth Israel’s part-time Cantor, Jeri is the Director of BJEP, the Boston-area Jewish Education Program, an independent Sunday school that meets on the Brandeis campus..

She and her husband, Steve, have a son and a daughter, Corey and Jordan, and a Havanese dog, Fiyero, named for the character in the musical Wicked. She is pleased to be part of the BI family!
