A seasoned Jewish educator, Sheri is excited to help create Rimon at Beth Israel as the Religious School’s Director and Head Teacher. Jewish education has advanced and is very different than it was just 10 or 15 years ago. She hopes to bring project-based learning to Beth Israel, along with creative programming, a madrichim program, music and movement.
Sheri comes to us from Springfield, Mass., where she teaches Hebrew and various Judaic studies classes to grades K-9. Originally a public school teacher with a BA in Social Welfare from UC Berkeley, Sheri went on to get a JD from Tulsa University (yes, she lived in Oklahoma for 9 years!) and an MJEd from Hebrew College (when she finally got back to New England), where she focussed on differentiated and special needs learning.
Sheri has been teaching for 30 years and has been the head teacher and/or Director of Education at congregational schools in Western Mass and Vermont. Among her passions, she produces and directs community theatre, loves sailing, singing and drumming. Sheri is married to her childhood sweetheart, Cantor Martin Levson. Together they have a son, Alec (also a teacher) in Watertown, and a daughter, Liz, at UMass Amherst. Her family is completed with two dogs, two cats and a horse.
